Schools are invited to join Waterstones (free of charge) online for a very special virtual event with the bestselling children’s author of Sky Song, Abi Elphinstone as she joins us to present her heart-pounding new adventure story, Goodnight Silver.

Recommended for years 4, 5, 6, and 7. The event will be recorded so if you can’t make the date or time, sign up anyway and Waterstones will post you the recording.

Emmy doesn’t believe in miracles. But when she is separated from her parents by a blizzard in the mountains of Mongolia, she meets a snow leopard cub and a boy who believes in impossible things. Together they embark on a perilous journey to find Whisperfell, a magical land where wild animals live in peace. But it’ll take a miracle to reach it before the hunters close in…

As part of this 45-minute interactive schools’ event Abi Elphinstone will talk about her new book, Goodnight Silver, a love letter to the wild and the power of hope. Abi will be revealing where she finds her ideas – from shower gel bottles and street signposts to adventures in Mongolia – as well as sharing facts about one of the most elusive animals on our planet and showing kids how to write their own adventure stories. This is an event that champions the joy of reading and writing while encouraging kids to be curious, courageous and compassionate about nature.Schools will also have the chance to put questions to Abi towards the end of this special event.

Waterstones Virtual Author Visits are the perfect opportunity to encourage reading for pleasure, introducing children to new books as well as fabulous author & illustrators, and to help inspire a love of reading even in the most reluctant readers. Taking part will support children’s literacy, creative writing and encourage a love of reading for pleasure.

Taking place on Zoom, this 45-minture webinar session will include a live presentation from the author, giving children the chance to hear about the authors book, characters and writing processes. There will also be a chance for children to have their questions answered live during the event!

Often pupils are very inspired to read the author’s book after the event, so we have created a special discount on Goodnight Silver, for school account orders.
